 Good Morning to You. Beverly,

Dr.Romero Gaitan, your neurosurgeon and I reviewed your CD scans, finding that you have developed a “Swan neck” deformity in your cervical spine because the plate and screws placed to hold your spine stable when the doctors did the first surgery on you, were not removed when you went back home after our procedure in Tijuana, and with your bones normal growth in the neck, the plate acted “Anchoring” the growth of the body of your vertebrae, preventing them to grow  in the anterior aspect of the C3, C4, C5 and C6. Vertebral bodies. That swan neck curvature narrowed your spinal canal pressing your spinal cord, preventing recovery and creating a cyst also in your cord. In order to fix that it will be necessary first to remove the plate and screws, to correct the swan neck curvature by operating your spine adding an artificial vertebra made with a titanium  cage and bone grafts. Once that first surgery heals giving you a normal cervical curvature, it will be followed by a new set of scans to see how much the spinal canal opened when correcting the curvature decompressing your cord. If the spinal cord looks still compressed, a new decompression surgery of the spinal cord and stem cell implantation on the affected segments will benefit the recovery of your cord.

Even the fact that your spinal cord has been pressed for many years now, we think that recovery of your cord will be a possibility. We have a French Canadian patient that after 27 years of having his spinal cord pressed by a spinal fracture, he sowed recovery after the decompression surgery.

Please let us know about your questions and suggestions once you have talked to Dr. Layard and your physicians back at home.

Kind Regards.

Dr. Romero Gaitan. Neurosurgeon. Dr. Ramirez del Rio. Trauma Surgeon and Medical Director.

Dear Beverly,

It was very good to learn about your whereabouts after so many years and to tell you that we think that we can continue to work together to continue your recovery.

From all patients that we have treated since 1990, the recovery has shown that as long as we work together with the cells, either Blue Shark or Umbilical Cord Stem Cells, and intensive physical therapy and rehabilitation.

Do you remember the Lady from South Africa , Jennine Houston that we did cervical spine decompression and shark spinal cells about the same time we operated you ?

She has recovered full motion and sensation getting injections of shark cells in the City of George, near Cape Town doing 6 hrs a day of therapy. She is driving, teaching math and is very independent at home with her every day activities.

Other patients that stopped treatment due to school or work and have decided to start again and are recovering very well.

As for planning for your continued spinal regeneration, I got together with team of surgeons and we  had a meting in order to get updated on your case and to make plans for you.

Your physical therapy and MRI scans were reviewed carefully.

Your MRI dated 15-06-2007 shows a thin spinal cord at the cervical 3, 4, and 5 levels with a small cyst (Syrinx) At C-6 level.

With the use of umbilical cord spinal and neural cells that are smaller, and respond stronger and faster than the treatments performed before, they may be able to be transplanted by doing a spinal tap at the level of the cyst, to promote new spinal regeneration, all along with 5 to 6 hrs of therapy daily, divided up through out the day which can be done at home and at your Rehabilitation  facilities.

A rather simple procedure call myelogram will show how much Spinal fluid goes trough. If this procedure is done, your Radiologist will ask you to lay down to avoid a nasty headache. When doing it ask the Radiology Department to make a copy on a DVD at the same time that the myelogram is performed. Then let’s review the new information to propose you more regeneration

We send you kind regards and hope to continue to work very hard together.

Sincerely,

Dr Fernando Ramirez Del Rio.
Medical Director.
